Pleioblastus - a genus of bamboo with numerous forms ranging from miniature ground covers to large timber sizes.  The ground cover forms can have very colorful leaves and are ideal for rapidly filling in an area; the timber forms are rare in cultivation in the US and are not very cold hardy so I do not have any that have sized up much.  Generally it is best to mow down the ground cover forms in late winter so that the cold damaged leaves do not detract from the colorful new spring foliage.

  Pl. fortunei - another green/white form, flowered in many places in 2008, I have an all-green seedling form as well.		                  
                                     
         
                                     
           
  Pl. gauntlettii - one of several all green members of the genus.

  Pl. simonii - can attain a large size but is not at all cold tolerant.		                
                                     
         
                                     
               
Pl. viridistriatus - stunning coloration, also a form without the green stripes.		                  
                                     
                     
                                     
                 
Pl. maculatus - attains a large size in a hospitable climate, new to the US, I imported it in 2005, container grown until spring 2011.
