Needmore Bamboo Co.

Phyllostachys varioauriculata - I imported this species into the US from Europe in the fall of 2005 as a piece of bare rhizome.  I know next to nothing about this bamboo except that it should be hardy to around +5F, perhaps a tad lower - time will tell and I'll keep updating this page with my observations.  I will container grow this until the spring of 2008 so no hardiness observations will be possible for quite some time yet. It did produce plants well from bare rhizome, suggesting ease of propagation.  I have learned that this bamboo is one of the shortest Phyllostachys and could be desirable for shorter privacy screens.  In-ground now for 2 full years, this bamboo shows leaf hardiness to around 0F, perhaps slightly colder, so good hardiness potential.
