Phyllostachys
prominens - I imported this species
into the US from Europe in the fall of 2005 as a piece of bare rhizome and
it propagated very well. My supplier lives in the southern portion of the
Netherlands in zone 6b . His Prominens
in 2007 produced a culm over 3 inches in diameter. This bamboo
has a very beautiful form, good hardiness, and based on what I am seeing
it is very vigorous with unusually dark green leaves. Sadly, there
is some chance that my plant may be mis-identified but for now we continue
to think it is the Prominens. I will container
grow this until the spring of 2008 so no hardiness observations will be
possible for quite some time yet. I am crossing my fingers with this one,
hoping I have the correct plant. |
