| Phyllostachys humilis - Widely grown in Europe but uncommon in the US, this is reported to have great hardiness. For me it seems to increase in hardiness each year and it sustained only leaf burn in the deep freeze of 2/2007 with no culm or branch damage, fully leafing back out after a low of -5F. A shorter, vigorous bamboo ideal for hedges or shorter screens, it produces lots of culms very quickly. It is now around 9 feet tall for me after 4 years. The new shoots have very colorful leaves similar to Phyllostachys mannii 'Decora'. | |||||||||
